  7. This file is intended to provide you with the most up to date information

  20. I.   System requirements.
  21. ============================================================
  22. Any IBM compatible PC running Microsoft Windows 3.1, Windows 95, or later,
  23. (486sx processor or better, DOS 3.3 or later). 8MB of RAM memory required,
  24. 16MB or more recommended. Any Microsoft Windows 3.1, or later, compatible VGA
  25. graphics card and monitor. Hard disk with at least 15 Mb free space. Double-
  26. speed or better CD-ROM drive.

  29. II.  Installation instructions for MSB (where no previous
  30.      version of Logos Library System has been installed).
  31. ============================================================
  32. 1.   Insert MSB CD in your CD-ROM drive.
  33. 2.   If you are running Windows 3.1, select File...Run from the Program
  34.      Manager. If you are running Windows 95, select Start...Run from the
  35.      Taskbar, or, if you have Autoplay enabled, you will be prompted to run
  36.      Setup automatically.
  37. 3.   In the Run dialog's Command Line, type D:\SETUP (or the applicable drive
  38.      letter of your CD-ROM drive) then press ENTER.
  39. 4.   When prompted, click OK to select the default directories
  40.      C:\LOGOS20 and C:\LRSYSTEM, (or replace them with the desired drive
  41.      and directory settings and click OK). We recommend using the defaults.
  42. 5.   Enter your name and/or company information and click OK. The setup
  43.      program will prompt you for confirmation that you entered the correct
  44.      information.
  45. 6.   When prompted, click OK to accept the location of your CD-ROM drive or
  46.      change the drive letter to the actual location of your CD-ROM drive.
  47. 7.   Specify the Program Group name where you want application icons to be
  48.      installed. The default location is "MacArthur Study Bible"
  49.      You may wish to click the down arrow and choose a different group or
  50.      type a new name for your own custom group. Click OK. The setup executable
  51.      will install the remaining files and you will then be ready to run MSB.
  52.  
  53. III. Installation instructions for users who have previously
  54.      installed an earlier version of Logos Library System.
  55. ============================================================
  56. If you have previously installed a copy of any software from Logos or any
  57. other Logos Library System compatible publisher, and that software included
  58. Logos v2.0, v2.0a - v2.0e, please use the following instructions to install
  59. MSB.
  60.  
  61. 1.   Open your existing version of Logos and select Tools...Backup System
  62.      Files.
  63. 2.   In the Backup System Files dialog, navigate to a directory other than
  64.      your \LOGOS20 or \LRSYSTEM directory and click OK.
  65. 3.   Exit Logos.
  66. 4.   Insert the MSB CD in your CD-ROM drive.
  67. 5.   In the Windows 3.1 Program Manager, select File...Run. On the Windows 95
  68.      taskbar, select Start...Run.
  69. 6.   In the Run dialog's Command Line, type D:\SETUP (or applicable drive
  70.      letter for your CD-ROM drive) then press ENTER.
  71. 7.   When prompted, click OK to select the default directory C:\LOGOS20. If you
  72.      have previously installed Logos v2.0, v2.0a - v2.0e, the text C:\LRSYSTEM
  73.      will be grayed out and not editable. (This setting is maintained in the
  74.      [LRSystems]section of the win.ini file.) We recommend using the defaults.
  75. 8.   You will be prompted for the Program Group name where you want the
  76.      program icons to be installed. If you wish to keep the icons in the same
  77.      group as the previous installation, click the down arrow button and
  78.      select the group name from the list. Click OK.
  79. 9.   You will be prompted to replace the file WORDS.LWF. If you do not wish to 
  80.      replace your current Global Word List, you can select the NO button. You 
  81.      will need to rebuild the GWL later for your Topic Browser to work globally.
  82.      See section V. of this file for more information. Setup will install the 
  83.      remaining MSB files. Click OK to the dialog that contains the "Installation
  84.      Complete!" message and you are ready to use MSB running LLS 2.1.
  85.   
  86. IV.  Special Features.
  87. ============================================================
  88. DDE Link to Parsons QuickVerse and other Bible Software
  89. -------------------------------------------------------
  90. Scrolling: MSB will scroll Seed Master, QuickVerse, and QuickVerse Library
  91. if the option "Scroll Bibles includes other Bible Software" is turned on in
  92. the DDE/DVI Panel of the Preferences dialog.
  93. Bible Jumps: MSB will jump to locations in Seed Master, QuickVerse, and
  94. QuickVerse Library if bible jumps are turned on in the DDE/DVI Panel of the
  95. Preferences dialog.
  96. Searching: Selecting the "Search Other Software..." option from the right
  97. mouse menu in MSB searches other Bible software programs in this order:
  98. QuickVerse, QuickVerse Library, Seed Master. If you have more than one of
  99. these applications running at the time the search is initiated, MSB will
  100. send its search command to the first application on the list. For example,
  101. if QuickVerse Library is listed in the Other Bible Software line in the
  102. DDE/DVI panel of the Preferences dialog in MSB, but QuickVerse is also
  103. running, MSB will send its search command to QuickVerse. To make MSB
  104. search QuickVerse Library instead of QuickVerse, close QuickVerse before
  105. running the search.
  106.  
  107. To set up QuickVerse for Windows 4.0 to run with MSB:
  108. Open QuickVerse for Windows, select the Options menu, and choose Other
  109. applications... In the "QV Library" and "Dictionary" lines of this dialog,
  110. type the path and file name for Logos.exe.
  111. Scrolling: QuickVerse for Windows will scroll books in Logos if "Synchronize
  112. QuickVerse Library..." is turned on in the Other Applications dialog in
  113. QuickVerse for Windows.
  114. Bible Jumps:  Same as scrolling.
  115. Searching:  Highlight a word in QuickVerse for Windows, click the QuickVerse
  116. Library toolbar button or select the Search menu and choose "QuickVerse
  117. Library" to search for the selected word in MSB. To perform an English
  118. Keylink search in MSB from QuickVerse, select the Search menu and choose
  119. Dictionary. Please refer to the MSB User's Guide for information on Keylinks
  120. in MSB.
  121. To set up QuickVerse Library for Windows to run with MSB:
  122. In QuickVerse Library, select the Options menu, then Preferences. In the
  123. "QuickVerse for Windows:" line of the Preferences dialog, type the path and
  124. file name for Logos.exe.
  125. Scrolling: Automatic if the above step is taken.
  126. Bible Jumps: Same as scrolling.
  127. Searching: After selecting text. Either click the QuickVerse toolbar button
  128. or select the Search menu and choose QuickVerse to search MSB.
  129. To set up QuickVerse for Windows 3.0 to work with MSB:
  130. Follow the steps outlined for QuickVerse for Windows 4.0. Keep in mind that
  131. the QV Library option is not available so searching will be limited to an
  132. English Keylink search.
  133.  
  134. Word Processor Macros
  135. --------------------
  136. Lotus Ami Pro:
  137. An AmiPro macro is now available from Logos' Web site at
  138. http://www.logos.com/support/supsol.htm. Consult Logos' Web page
  139. (http://www.logos.com) for other updates and program enhancements.
  140. Word 7.0:
  141. The installation procedure automatically installed a file called LOGOS20.DOT
  142. into your LOGOS20 directory. Copy this template into your WINWORD\STARTUP
  143. directory and run Word. The template will automatically install two toolbar
  144. buttons for the new macros.
  145. WordPerfect:
  146. Copy the file LOGOS20.WCM into your WPWIN6X\MACROS directory (where X is
  147. your version of WordPerfect). Execute the macro by selecting Tools, Macros,
  148. Play... Type LOGOS20 into the box provided and click OK.
  149.  
  150. IntelliMouse Support
  151. --------------------
  152. MSB supports the Microsoft IntelliMouse on Windows 95. Placing the mouse
  153. cursor over a window and rolling the wheel will cause the window to scroll,
  154. even when you are in a dialog. Clicking the mouse wheel in a window turns on
  155. auto-scroll mode. The mouse cursor will change into a multi-directional
  156. cursor, indicating the directions in which you may now scroll. Moving the
  157. mouse in one of those directions causes the window to scroll in that
  158. direction. Clicking the mouse wheel again turns off auto-scroll mode.
  159.  
  160. V.   Known problems and ways to work around them.
  161. ============================================================
  162. Topic Browser not available Globally
  163. ------------------------------------
  164. If the Topic Browser cannot be opened globally or is not available when no
  165. books are open, the Global Word List is out of date and needs to be rebuilt.
  166. To rebuild the Global Word List, open MSB, select the Tools menu and choose
  167. Rebuild Global Word List.
  168.  
  169. Use All Wildcard Matches
  170. ------------------------
  171. The search option Use All Wildcard Matches will only work if a Global Word
  172. List is available to MSB. If the Global Word List is available but not up
  173. to date, the Use All Wildcard Matches option will work, but the options
  174. presented will be limited to the words available in the available Global Word
  175. List.
  176.  
  177. Word Processor Macros
  178. --------------------
  179. WordPerfect
  180. The macro for WordPerfect is designed to work with WordPerfect for Windows
  181. versions 6.0 and newer. This macro does not work well with any earlier
  182. version of WordPerfect for Windows.
  183.  
  184. Installing MSB
  185. ----------------
  186. If you are installing MSB using the Windows 3.1 operating system, the
  187. installer will attempt to restart Windows after the icon is created. Manually
  188. reboot the computer at this point to reset the system. After restarting the
  189. machine, launch Windows 3.1 and continue working.
  190.  
  191. Starting MSB
  192. --------------
  193. If you have previously installed an earlier version of Logos Library System,
  194. the splash screen for that previous version might be replaced by a different
  195. splash screen.
  196.  
  197. Printing
  198. --------
  199. If you are printing an article that contains graphics (i.e. the MSB User's
  200. Guide), the graphics print at a reduced size rather than their full size as
  201. viewed on screen. The reduction is directly related to the resolution of your
  202. printer. For instance, a 600 dpi printer will print the graphics 200% smaller
  203. than a 300 dpi printer.
  204.  
  205. Support Files
  206. -------------
  207. MSB does not install the files for Search Help, Tip of the Day, and the
  208. User's Guide to the \<LRSYSTEM> directory. These items will not be available
  209. when MSB is started if the CD is not available at start-up.
  210.  
  211. Search Ranges and Bibles with Alternate Book Orders
  212. ---------------------------------------------------
  213. Using pre-defined Verse Ranges or typing a custom Verse Range that uses
  214. hyphens to indicate a range of books in the Verse Range field of the Search
  215. Dialog will not always produce expected results. MSB uses the book order of
  216. the King James Version of the Bible for pre-defined search ranges. Several
  217. Bibles use book orders different than the King James Version, including, but
  218. not limited to the Tanakh, the Septuaginta, and the Biblia Hebraica
  219. Stuttgartensia.
  220. If you are having difficulty expressing a range of books and finding correct
  221. results, try listing each book title individually in the Verse Range field.
  222.  
  223. DVI and Windows 3.1x
  224. --------------------
  225. If you receive an error while trying to insert a verse with DVI or DVI does
  226. not insert the selected verse into the selected document, check the FILES=
  227. setting in the file CONFIG.SYS. The value at the end of this line should be
  228. at least 20, preferably 30, for DVI to work properly in Windows 3.1x.
  229.  
  230. DVI and Some Word Processors
  231. ----------------------------
  232. Sometimes DVI is unable to properly paste the desired text from LLS into your
  233. word processor program. If you run DVI and find that nothing was pasted into
  234. your program, select Paste from the Edit menu of your word processor to
  235. complete the insertion.
  236.  
  237. Viewing Citation Information in Word Processors
  238. -----------------------------------------------
  239. For word processors that support Rich Text Format (such as Microsoft Word).
  240. citations are inserted as footnotes. To view them, you must view the footnotes
  241. in your document. You can do this in Microsoft Word, for example, by either
  242. selecting "Footnotes" from the Edit menu or by selecting "Page Layout" from
  243. the View menu.
  244.  
  245. Jumps to Internet Sites and Windows 3.1x
  246. ----------------------------------------
  247. A hyper-text link to the Nelson\Word World Wide Web page is available from within
  248. MSB. Select the Help menu option "Go To http://www.NelsonWordDirect.com". For
  249. this to work when running MSB on Windows 3.1x, the Internet browsing
  250. application must already be running in the background.
  251.  
  252. Boot Log
  253. --------
  254. If you are experiencing problems starting MSB, please start MSB by
  255. running "LOGOS /B" from File Run:
  256. 1. From Program Manager, select the File menu.
  257. 2. From the File menu, select Run.
  258. 3. In the Run dialog's Command Line, type 'C:\LOGOS20\LOGOS.EXE /B'and     click
  259. OK. After the error occurs, print C:\LOGOS20\BOOTLOG.LOG from Windows Write
  260. or other word processor (not Notepad). Please have this information
  261. available when you call Nelson/Word Tech Support.
  262. If you are experiencing problems starting MSB while running Windows 95,
  263. start MSB from a Run command as follows:
  264. 1.  Click on Start and then on Run.
  265. 2.  On the Open line, type in 'C:\LOGOS20\LOGOS.EXE /B' and then click     OK.
  266. After the error, find the file BOOTLOG.LOG in the LOGOS20 directory and
  267. double click on it. Take it to Wordpad, and print it out. Please have this
  268. information available when you call Nelson/Word Tech Support.
  269.
